Artist, photographer & designer Heather Ross is known for her wonderful sense of color, keen eye & evocative imagery. For years her work as a photographer & stylist has been featured in the pages of many publications. She grew up in beautiful Vancouver, B.C. where she currently resides with her partner Craig & her lovely cat Griffin. She has a fine art & design background in painting, printmaking ceramics & textiles. Her paintings, while abstracted, draw upon the elements of earth, water, air & sky, marking our connections to the seasons, the ephemeral qualities of time & place & ultimately to our sense of belonging in the world.
In her twenties Heather started her own company, producing a poetic line of handprinted linens & accessories which sold in finer stores across Canada. She spent two years living in Paris working as a textile designer. It was during this time Heather discovered her source for fabulous finds in the antique brocante markets of France.
Upon her return home in 1996 Heather’s eye as a photographer was noted by an art director. She began shooting professionally, bringing all of her creative experience, design sense & travels together in the stories she began producing for lifestyle magazines. She is a regular contributor to publications such as House & Home & Western Living Magazine. In 2001 she opened her own gallery boutique, Heather Ross [ in house ] located in the art & antiques district of South Granville, Vancouver. The boutique is a favorite amongst designers, art directors & set decorators who covet Heathers unique vision for bringing unexpected items together with nuance & grace. She loves to use natural found objects in her charming displays & is drawn to simple organic forms & authentic materials. ‘This is the thinking decorator’s dream shop. I could not extricate myself from its intelligent, captivating spell. It has the feeling of an underwater garden, inspired no doubt by Heather’s upbringing on the coast and her love for all things natural’
In this elemental boutique hand picked treasures mingle amongst modern accessories for the home. Heather creates an eclectic mix, juxtaposing layered vignettes with her own alluring paintings & photographs in a way that is fresh & engaging ~ providing a compelling atmosphere in which to discover art & artful belongings.
She continues to travel regularly on buying trips and assignments, always seeking out beauty along her way. She loves to write, garden, cook, and to search for treasures not just in flea markets, but also along the shorelines and forest floors.
Heather is currently working on her book The Natural Eclectic™
